About Mabanja & Sons Ltd

Support that understands the person

At Mabanja & Sons Ltd, we believe good support is never about ticking boxes or doing things for people that they can learn to do for themselves.

It should help people live meaningful lives.

Our Origin

Why Mabanja & Sons Ltd began.

Through my work in special needs education, I have seen how patience, consistent relationships and an understanding of communication can help people achieve meaningful goals.

That achievement might be choosing an activity, preparing a meal, becoming more confident on a bus or taking the first step into volunteering. Each achievement matters because of the difference it makes to that person’s life.

I wanted to bring that same practical, respectful approach to support beyond education—helping people develop independence, enjoy their communities and have more say in their everyday lives.

Person-Centred Discovery

We start by getting to know you

Understanding the individual’s interests, communication, routines and goals.
Interests & Choices

We find out what brings happiness, personal hobbies, preferred activities, and favourite places to visit. Support is planned around what you actually enjoy doing.

Communication

We take time to learn how each person expresses themselves best—whether through speech, visual aids, non-verbal cues, or assistive communication tools.

Everyday Routines

We respect established daily rhythms, comfort zones, and familiar structures that help individuals feel secure, confident, and in control of their day.

Personal Goals

We focus on what you want to achieve—whether that is learning to cook a simple meal, taking the bus independently, or trying a new community project.

Patience & Practical Steps

Every step counts towards lasting independence

We take the time to understand your pace. There is never any rush. By breaking activities down into manageable steps and celebrating every milestone, we help individuals build skills that stay with them for life.

Our Guiding Principles

What matters to us

Choice, independence, communication, dignity and safety guide every conversation, support plan, and action we take.
Choice

Having a real say in everyday life

People should have a voice in decisions affecting their lives. We encourage and support individuals to make their own choices about their routines, activities, who supports them, and how they spend their time.

Independence

Doing things for yourself, at your pace

We focus on what people can do rather than creating dependency. Where someone can complete part of a task or learn a skill, we support them patiently to build confidence and self-reliance.

Communication

Listening and being heard

Effective support requires active listening and an understanding of how each person communicates. We never rush. We adapt our communication so the individual is always heard and understood.

Dignity

Respecting the individual at all times

Every person is treated with profound respect, kindness, and adult dignity. We value each person’s background, privacy, preferences, and identity in every interaction.

Safety & Positive Risk-Taking

Safeguarding wellbeing while encouraging life experiences

Safeguarding and wellbeing are central to our work. All staff complete an Enhanced DBS check and safeguarding training before supporting anyone, and we follow clear safeguarding procedures. At the same time, we believe in positive risk-taking—supporting individuals to safely enjoy activities and community opportunities without unnecessary restrictions.
