Learning Disability Support

Support That Recognises the Individual

About this support

Supporting people with learning disabilities is a key area of focus for Mabanja & Sons Ltd. We understand that a learning disability does not define a person. Every individual has their own personality, strengths, interests, communication style, abilities and aspirations. Our role is to understand those things and provide support that helps the person achieve meaningful outcomes.

What Support May Include:

Developing Independence: cooking, shopping, cleaning, household equipment, personal belongings, money awareness and travel skills

Communication Support: pictures, symbols, gestures, Makaton, communication devices, facial expressions and behavioural understanding

Community Participation: visiting libraries, cafes, sports centres, swimming, cycling, volunteering, parks and faith groups

Confidence & Social Skills: meeting new people, making choices, taking turns, group activities, friendships and trying new hobbies

Structured Support: visual timetables, step-by-step pictorial guides, social stories, consistent schedules and positive reinforcement
